About Us
Our Story
Merrill and Jeanne moved to the ranch in 2010 with their soon to be family of 7. Merrill was lending full time for Farm Credit (now AgWest) and soon decided ranching and banking were two full time jobs that left little room for sleeping or enjoying all that ranching had to offer. At the time the family was young and learning how to be good stewards of the land. Now they are all integral parts of our operation and we love having many helping hands on our team.
Our Heritage
McKamey West Inc. is a family-run ranch situated in the heart of Montana, with a rich history that dates back to the late 1800s. Originally founded as the Colby Sheep Company, it has been passed down through generations of the McKamey family. In 1979, the company was incorporated and began specializing in beef, sheep, and fostering a strong family-centered approach. Les and Wendy McKamey have owned and operated McKamey West Inc. with a dedication to hard work, a deep commitment to the land, resources, and the care of livestock, ensuring the continued success and sustainability of the ranch.
Sheep and Cattle
At McKamey West Inc., we specialize in Black Angus cattle and Columbia sheep, two breeds that thrive in Montana's rugged environment. Our livestock is raised on the lush grasslands of Montana, where they are fed on natural forage and receive daily care. Regardless of the challenging weather conditions Montana often presents, we ensure that our animals are well-cared for with the utmost attention to their needs. Our commitment to stewardship means that we provide the very best for our livestock, maintaining a standard of excellence in everything we do.

McKamey West is excited to introduce our new offering: "From Our Pasture to Your Plate." We now provide all-natural, grass-fed beef and lamb directly to our customers, family, and friends. Our animals are raised on high-quality feed and are carefully prepared to ensure the highest level of satisfaction for our customers. Whether you're looking for a whole, half, or quarter of beef or lamb, we have plenty to offer. We take pride in providing premium, pasture-raised meat that reflects our commitment to quality and sustainable farming practices.

We believe in taking care of the land for future generations. That's why we have taught our girls to use sustainable ranching practices to ensure that our land and animals thrive. Kayleen is studying Agri Business and recently completed an internship with Rabo Agri Finance. Clair helps with calving and lamb as well fencing and farming. Natalie cares for the bum lambs.

Ian runs a small rock picking business in which he supplies masonries with gorgeous landscaping rocks. With his earnings Ian is preparing to serve an LDS mission in Cameroon Yolande Africa. He is practicing his French.
Lane loves to trap and fish and hunt. He rids the ranch of coyotes, beavers, badgers, racoons, and pocket gophers.
